Great City opens its doors to video production

Great City now offers video editorial services in its newly expanded production facility. Featuring a robust shared storage system, 2 private editing bays, and 2 additional multi-purpose edit machines, these new suites give Great City’s clients the ability to complete all of their post-production needs under one roof.

Ugly Americans Premieres!

March 17th, 2010   -  

Ugly Americans, the new animated horror/comedy series on Comedy Central, premieres March 17th at 10:30p after South Park. The series was animated at Augenblick Animation Studios in Brooklyn, with sound design by the Great City team. Ugly Americans was created and directed by Devin Clark, and developed by David Stern.

Exploding Girl Theatrical Release

March 17th, 2010   -  

Exploding Girl, starring Zoe Kazan and Mark Rendall, has its theatrical release at the Landmark Sunshine Theater in NYC this week. The film, by husband and wife team Bradley Rust Gray and So Young Kim, had audio production completed at Great City.  Some great reviews here, here, and here.

The New Tenants wins an Oscar.

Joachim Back’s The New Tenants won a 2010 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short.  The film was sound designed and mixed at Great City.

Joachim Back’s The New Tenants starring Vincent D’Onofrio was nominated for a 2010 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short.  Audio post for The New Tenants was completed by Ian Stynes and the sound team at Great City.

“Bass Ackwards” travels to Sundance ‘10

Linas Phillips’s narrative film Bass Ackwards premiered at Sundance ‘10 and now reaches millions of homes through VOD, iTunes, and YouTube.  Audio post for the film was completed at Great City.

Yeasayer recently completed their highly anticipated new record “Odd Blood” with Britt Myers in Studio A.  The album comes out in February 2010 on Secretly Canadian.

Great City sounds off on the VMAs

Great City recently completed sound design and mixing for the West Side Story-themed VMA promos featuring host Russell Brand and performers Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Ne-Yo, Cobra Starship, and Leighton Meester singing a take on the ’50s-era musical’s iconic song, “Tonight”.  Watch the promos here, and listen out for the extensive use of Great City’s foley pit!

Chris Smith’s “Collapse” mixed at Great City

Ian Stynes mixed the documentary film Collapse at Great City for its acclaimed debut at the Toronto Film Festival.  This powerful film, directed by Chris Smith (American Movie, Yes Men), follows a former police officer and investigator who accurately predicted the recent financial crisis.  You can find out more about the film at its website.

Passing Strange Theatrical Release

Passing Strange, the former Broadway musical and now the Spike Lee-directed film, made its theatrical debut this month at the IFC theaters in New York.  Visit the IFC website for tickets and more information about this powerful film.  The film is also available on VOD.  Roger Ebert reviews the film here.  Score mixing was completed at Great City last year.

Studio A nominated for TEC Award

Great City’s new Studio A has been nominated for a TEC Award in Studio Design.  Designer Fran Manzella worked closely with owner Britt Myers to design a studio expansion that fulfills the facility’s needs for both music mixing and audio post production.  The award winners will be announced at the 127th AES Convention in October.

Great City filled with “Ugly Americans”

Great City has begun the sound work on the Comedy Central upcoming new animated series “Ugly Americans”.  The half-hour series takes place in an alternate universe of New York City where creatures from the horror and fantasy genres live among ordinary people.  The sound design team at Great City looks forward to many zombie sounds in the months ahead!

Chairlift nominated for Breakthrough Video VMA

Chairlift, whose Columbia debut album Does You Inspire You was recorded at Great City, was recently nominated for a VMA for Best Breakthrough Video for the song “Evident Utensil”.  Check out the video here.
